ISLAMABAD: Ishaq Dar, the federal finance minister, has had all of his assets and bank accounts recovered by the accountability court.
According to a written judgment, Judge Muhammad Bashir of the accountability court, earlier ordered that the confiscation of the finance minister’s assets be stopped and that the bank accounts be given back.
Furthermore, the order to seize Dar’s property is withdrawn since the prosecution stated that Dar surrendered and that the trial was terminated owing to the loss of jurisdiction.
The prosecutor also stated that the court should issue an appropriate decision in line with the law.
The sources said that Ishaq Dar’s bank accounts and Lahore home were ordered to be forfeited after an advertisement was published according to a judgment made by the accountability court on December 11th.
It is to note here that the accountability court stated earlier in November that it lacked the authority to take action under the new NAB regulations and returned a reference against the finance minister and others in an assets-beyond-means case.
It is also relevant to mention that the NAB (Second Amendment) Bill was amended by the current administration shortly after taking office to further restrict the bureau’s mandate.
Additionally, Dar fled the country after being charged and lived in self-exile for 5 years and was designated a criminal.
In September of this year, the ruling was overturned, allowing Dar to return home and take over as finance minister of the country.
