ADP Releases Funds for KP Cities Improvement Project

PESHAWAR: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has begun disbursing the loan money to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government under the Cities Improvement Project.

In the province’s biggest cities, the loan will be used for the provision of clean drinking water, sanitary services, and minimal amenities.

After obtaining funding from ADB, the KP government reportedly distributed PKR 240 million for the project.

As part of the agreement, ADB will provide a USD 1 billion loan, the largest in the history of the province, for the two-phase project to improve the city.

In the first phase, funds will be utilized to provide essential services in Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Swat, and Kohat, five significant cities.  While, the BRT services in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Peshawar would receive even more improvements in the second phase.

The ADB will also provide funding to improve drainage systems, develop water treatment facilities to make drainage water useful, set up dump sites for garbage disposal, and build public parks in order to make the cities habitable by international standards.
