PESHAWAR: Zafar Mehmood, the advisor for Tourism, Archeology, and Culture to the Chief Minister of KP, has stated that legal action will be taken against officials from civic departments who approve illegal buildings.
Mehmood revealed that in the past, non-objection certificates were issued to builders by tehsil municipal administrations, the National Highway Authority (NHA), and Communication and Works Department under political pressure.
As a result, builders and landowners encroached upon main arteries, including the Karakoram Highway, taking advantage of political influences.
However, the government plans to launch anti-encroachment drives to clear the right-of-way and demolish such structures.
Mehmood added that an anti-encroachment operation is also scheduled to take place in Mansehra.
A meeting will be held by the NHA, Communication, and Works Department, and TMA of Mansehra and Baffa-Pakhal to finalize the schedule.
The NHA has already served notices on the owners of encroached buildings.
