Balochistan Census Underway with 96% Housing Census Completion

QUETTA: The population census has begun in Balochistan following the completion of the housing census.

According to Census Commissioner Balochistan, Noor Ahmed Perkani, the housing census, which was conducted digitally for the first time in the province, was completed peacefully.

However, the census could not be conducted in four percent of the areas due to the prevailing law and order situation.

Perkani further added that the housing census in 228 blocks of Makran, which was halted due to technical reasons, will be started in a few days.

The housing census started on March 1 and continued until March 11, with 96 percent of the area covered.

Due to poor law and order situation, the census was not conducted in Kohlu, Kahan, Kalat, and Johan areas.

The population census is a crucial step for national planning and development, and Balochistan is conducting the process after 19 years, he added.

The government has also urged the citizens to cooperate with the census teams to facilitate the smooth conduct of the process.
