Balochistan Govt Bans Constructions Along Water Channels

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has enforced Section 144 on the construction of residential and commercial constructions around natural water bodies and rivers.

According to a notification issued by the Additional Chief Secretary Home & Tribal Affairs, the government has invoked Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 and has prohibited any development inside the limitations of flood channels and irrigation drains across the province.

The authorities stated that the decision was made to prevent further encroachment, and that any building activity within the flood channel limitations was now prohibited.

The government would take action and levy fines against any continued development activities.

The prohibition would also be in effect for the foreseeable future along all major flood channels and rivers.

It is vital to note that Balochistan is one of the worst-affected regions in the country, with millions of people homeless and in need of assistance.

The administration has also requested assistance from overseas donors and aid organizations in rehabilitating individuals.

The government estimates that the flood has affected 33 million people and caused USD 10 billion in material damage.
