Caretaker Minister Calls for Protection of Green Areas in Punjab

LAHORE: The Caretaker Local Government Minister, Ibrahim Murad, has emphasized the importance of protecting green areas in urban centers to promote economic growth and combat pollution.

In a meeting to review the progress of the preparation of a master plan for 11 districts of Punjab, Murad directed officials to clearly demarcate green areas to safeguard agricultural land and combat pollution.

The minister further stressed that new housing schemes should not be allowed in green areas, and strict action should be taken against illegal schemes already in existence.

Murad noted that business and commercial activities in cities are crucial for economic stability and the creation of employment opportunities.

The Local Government Department is currently preparing master plans for Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Okara, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Vehari, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.

Besides, the Land Use Classification Maps for the 11 districts have already been prepared and sent to relevant Deputy Commissioners for approval and notification.

Once approved, the land use plans for these districts will be able to meet the needs of the next 20 years.

Furthermore, economic corridors and business zones will be created in small towns to promote business and commercial activities and provide employment opportunities for citizens.
