CDA Gears Up Against Surfacing of Illegal Housing Societies

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has ordered the capital’s relevant departments to conduct an inspection of Islamabad’s unlawful housing societies. Details indicate that many societies operate despite not having an official NOC and still selling plots to customers.

The spokesperson of CDA stated that such private housing schemes will be identified, and an updated list will be made available to the general public to ensure that they do not fall victim to any fraud.

According to information released in a local newspaper on July 7, 2022, under the supervision of Revenue and Field Officers, a survey of unlawful housing organizations would be launched as hundreds of new housing societies emerged in the federal capital.

Concerned departments have already been tasked to analyze private housing plans and provide an updated list.

The private housing societies need to adhere to a two-step process that entails 19 main and 29 minor phases in order to get NOCs from the relevant authorities as per the SOPs designed by CDA.

It may also be noted that obtaining NOC is a time-consuming procedure that can take anywhere from 2 to 2.5 years; according to ground laws, no private housing project can begin development until receiving NOC clearance.

The development work in all unlawful housing societies in Islamabad will be stopped by the appropriate authorities after this course of action and harsh legal steps would be taken against the perpetrators, said the sources.

Authorities are also concentrating on developing a system that would allow everybody to learn the legal standing of any housing project in Islamabad.
