CDA to Prepare Environmental Mitigation Plan for Sector I-15

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to develop an Environmental Mitigation Plan for Sector I-15 in Islamabad to protect the area from soil erosion, water contamination, and air pollution.

As per the details, the plan is necessary due to the estimated 44 tons per day of solid waste that is expected to be generated from the residential and commercial areas of the sector.

While there is no significant fresh surface water in Sector I-15, the mitigation plan will help to prevent water contamination, which has become an issue due to the mixing of wastewater from upstream residential and commercial areas.

Furthermore, the Environmental Mitigation Plan will include temporary measures, such as the construction of temporary walls to contain debris and avoid soil erosion.

The plan will also see the planting of different types of plants to prevent soil erosion in the sector, including Buddleia asiatica, Cassia artemisoioides, Ballerina cristata, Lantana indica, and Hibiscus rosa sinensis.

Besides, the sector has a low population and traffic, with air quality that can be considered good due to the absence of significant pollution sources.

An official has said that sector I-15 will offer a healthy environment to the residents as it will be protected from sources of pollution under the mitigation plan.

It is worth mentioning that the land for the sector was acquired by the CDA in 1968 along with neighboring sectors I-14 and I-16.

Besides, the CDA also settled the claims of landowners by giving them due compensation, and plots were allotted to the affectees.

In addition, groundwater in the sector is available at a depth of 150-170 ft and is being used for drinking and other domestic purposes.
