CDA to Seek Assistance from Survey of Pakistan for Demarcation Process

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to work with Survey of Pakistan for the “demarcation of Margalla Hills National Park and Zone III” to carry out its plan to change the rules for Zone III.

According to the sources, the CDA is considering names for a panel that would modify zoning laws and is likely to be led by a former judge.

The details show that candidates for the planned committee include a retired high court judge, a former general, faculty members from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), municipal planners, and environmentalists.

The sources say that the demarcation would be completed before the Survey of Pakistan’s demarcation.

A top CDA official stated, “We have sought a Survey of Pakistan for boundary delineation and after receiving the survey results, the CDA will build border markers at an estimated cost.”

When questioned about the prior demarcation, the representative stated that the CDA had finished demarcating reserve forests and military lands that are located in Margalla Hills, adding that the civic agency did not have land located in Zone III and Margalla Hills marked.

He stated that CDA had asked Survey of Pakistan to properly demarcate the whole Margalla Hills and the acquired area.

Furthermore, Zone III, which covers around 50,000 acres, is dispersed across both private property and the Margalla Hills national park.

It is worth mentioning that at least 20,000 acres of the whole area are privately owned and are devoid of any laws or restrictions.
