PESHAWAR: Pakistan Railways dry port in Azakhel can boost exports, generate employment and promote business, said Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, Chairman of Railways/Dryport Standing Committee of Sarhad Chamber Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Peshawar.
Sarhadi urged the government to make the port functional as it will greatly facilitate Pak-Afghan trade and industrialization in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), given its proximity to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor route.
The Azakhel dry port was established on 28 acres of land in the Nowshera district on the main GT Road, and its operationalization can enable KP investors to showcase their products at local and international markets.
The port’s location near the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway, Rashaki Special Economic Zone, and Bacha Khan International Airport could also increase trade volume among Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asian Republics.
