PESHAWAR: The Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahzad Khan Bangash, during a meeting, stated that the province suffered fewer losses as a result of superior flood management, an effective response system, and other precautionary measures.
According to a press release, he said that Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and Swat were the most severely affected of the 17 districts that were deemed flood-hit, but better management helped reduce the damages.
As per the estimate, more than 4 lac people were relocated to safe locations during the recent floods, and over 70,000 individuals were rescued while 286,224 recipients of dry rations and 866,363 recipients of cooked food were helped.
Additionally, to help rehabilitate the flood victims, 196 campgrounds with a combined capacity of more than 206,100 people were put up.
The Chief Secretary, hailing the district administrations, added that the authorities had implemented prompt measures, including pre-flood evacuation, canal cleaning, and a show of operational preparedness.
The participants of the meeting were also briefed on the survey of 46,478 damaged houses that had been completed, of which 14,180 were completely destroyed and 32,298 suffered minor damage, and over 9,000 affected people received Rs. 12 billion from the provincial government.
Furthermore, it was reported in the meeting that 13,106 Kanal of government land had been reclaimed from encroachers while 7,161 schools, 8,349 health institutions, 5,609 annual development projects, and 7279 patwar khanas have been examined in the past 4 months.
