CM Punjab Announces Housing Colonies for Lawyer Community

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Tuesday announced that housing colonies for lawyers would be established in every tehsil and district of the province, and their families would be provided with free medical services comparable to those provided to gazetted officers.

In the meeting with the CM, the delegation of Supreme Court lawyers led by Barrister Ali Zafar, Abid Zubairi, and Imtiaz Rashid Siddiqui discussed various issues with the CM and urged him to facilitate the lawyer community in this regard.

The CM announced the immediate reinstatement of the public defender act, adding that approximately 1,500 lawyers would be accommodated through this act.

He announced the construction of a parking plaza near the Shah Chirag building, as well as a service structure for the public prosecutor’s office.

Furthermore, he also stated that the Punjab Bar Council (PBC) and hostel buildings would be repaired and highlighted that the PBC building was completed during his previous tenure.

“I have always prioritized the welfare of the legal fraternity, and Supreme Court lawyers’ issues will be resolved as a matter of priority,” he said.
