KARACHI: The Defense Housing Authority (DHA) of Karachi has announced its collaboration with Faldo Design to develop an exceptional eighteen-hole golf course as part of a new project near the city on Pakistan’s south coast.
As per the details, the Fairwinds Signature Golf Course and Country Club is a significant component of the proposed master-planned community, DHA City Karachi, spanning 20,000 acres.
Alongside residential properties, the community will feature a hospital, university, schools, recreational facilities, and a golf course.
The community, located approximately 56 kilometers from Karachi, is designed to be self-sufficient in terms of water and electricity, as outlined in the DHA master plan revealed in 2011.
Following the successful completion of the Rumanza project in Multan in early 2022, Faldo Design has been selected to design the new golf course.
Sir Nick Faldo, renowned golfer and designer, expressed his excitement about the opportunity to work in Pakistan again, given the positive experience with the Rumanza project.
He stated that the vision is to create a championship-level golf course capable of hosting international tournaments while ensuring an enjoyable experience for club members.
The lead architect at Faldo Design, Andy Haggar, and his team have already begun developing the golf course routing.
Construction is expected to commence in late 2023, after the monsoon season, with assistance from the GEO Foundation, a sustainability-focused organization.
Haggar shared insights into their approach, stating that they will carefully consider the natural features of the site to incorporate them into the course layout, both physically and visually.
The completion of the golf course is anticipated by 2025, with high expectations for it to become a world-class destination for golf enthusiasts in Pakistan and beyond.
