DHA Karachi Residents Enraged over CBC’s New Property Tax Evaluation Method

KARACHI: The proposal of calculating the property tax by the market value instead of the Annual Rental Value by the Cantonment Board Clifton has enraged the residents of the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) Karachi.

The residents have rejected the proposal saying that CBC previously calculated the yearly tax on the basis of Annual Rental Value.

They have also stated that the old method was better as it has been used for years and can also be used further. Plus with the new method, they will have to pay a huge amount in taxes as compared to the prior.

It is important to note that the notice issued by the CBC also asked the owners of any property that falls under the CBC’s jurisdiction for suggestions within a period of 30 days.

The proposal has been made as per section 66 of the Cantonments Act of 1924 for revision of the property taxes as required under sections 67 and 72 of the Act.

  1. CBC should seek comments on property tax evaluation method from residents by delivering “Paper request for comments” like actual Tax bill to each & every resident instead of publishing in newspaper since 95% of residents do not know about cbc ad.
