District Administration Launches Grand Anti-Encroachment Operation in Karachi’s North Nazimabad

KARACHI: An anti-encroachment operation was held in Landikotal Chowrangi, North Nazimabad in which the decades-old houses and shops were demolished.

However, the Karachi Bachao Tehreek (KBT) asserted that a demolition campaign against working-class properties in Landikotal Chowrangi, Karachi had been started by the KDA’s anti-encroachment cell.

This new campaign has been launched against shop owners who bought their properties under lease agreements with the KMC, KDA, SKAA, and CDGK, it said.

According to reports, occupants of the encroached land resisted the district administration’s anti-encroachment team.

As per the sources, a sizable police presence that was accompanying the anti-encroachment team fired several tear gas shells to disperse the demonstrators.

They claimed that heavy equipment was being used to demolish more than 35 shops that had been built illegally on the encroached property.

In a series of tweets, the KBT stated, “On August 19, the Anti-Encroachment Cell notified the shop owners in Landikotal Chowrangi that their establishments are located on an amenities plot and that they must produce documents within three days or face having their businesses demolished on August 21.”

Sources in the district administration also hinted at another spell of grand operation to remove encroachments at Landi Kotal Chowrangi.
