LAHORE: Punjab’s Finance Ministry has instructed the Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control (ET&NC) Department and Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) that property tax exemption should be determined through property value rather than area.
The details in this regard revealed that a meeting of the Resource Mobilization Committee was held on Wednesday during which Provincial Minister for Finance, Sardar Mohsin Laghari issued directives for the improvements of the infrastructure, hospitals, and educational institutions as well as an increase in revenue.
The finance secretary briefed that the PRA has collected 31% more tax in the first three months of this fiscal year compared to last year.
He also briefed the finance minister on the goals set for the tax departments and the specifics of first-quarter revenue.
Additionally, the Provincial Minister was informed by the Secretary of Excise and Taxation about the challenges associated with tax collection while being assured that the goals would be met by the end of the fiscal year.
“Improving the people’s relationship with institutions is necessary to increase tax collections, while this cannot be increased unless the tax collection agencies shun their corrupt practices and aggressive attitudes,” the finance minister said.
The minister went on to say that the government relies heavily on revenue to improve the state of public hospitals, schools, and roads, adding that, the cabinet and institutions should sensitize the public about the need for and importance of tax amount.
