KARACHI: The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) on Tuesday began a massive operation to reclaim areas that had been encroached on in Block 9 of the Federal B Area.
Details indicate that during the anti-encroachment operation, the KDA received strong resistance from the locals who threw stones at the police and responded by shelling and aerial fires.
Over 45 shops and 40 houses would reportedly be demolished using heavy machinery, according to KDA sources.
Director KDA stated that the structures were erected unlawfully on a 6,000-yard plot.
According to sources, four teams were organized to carry out the operation. In the initial phase of the action, the businesses at the front have been destroyed while the operation will continue until objectives are met
A large number of policemen and water cannons were also called during the operation.
