PESHAWAR: On Tuesday, a massive fire broke out at a camp of a Chinese company working on the Dasu hydropower project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohistan district, according to officials.
The camp, which houses Chinese engineers, surveyors, and mechanics, was engulfed in flames, but no injuries or deaths were reported.
According to the police, the warehouse complex for the Dasu hydropower project in the Kohistan district was destroyed by the pre-dawn blaze.
It was suspected that the fire was caused by an electrical fault, said one police official. Although the flames were high initially, the fire brigade from two other districts managed to control the fire.
It is worth noting that the China Gezhouba Group Company was awarded the construction contract for the Dasu Dam by the water ministry in 2017.
China has invested billions of dollars in Pakistan since 2015 under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) investment scheme.
