ISLAMABAD: The revision of Islamabad’s master plan, which was planned in December 2018 by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been delayed as a new commission is yet to be formed.
As per the details, Khan had formed a commission of experts, but a proper revision could not be done.
The Greek firm Doxiadis Associates, which had prepared the master plan, had recommended revising it every 20 years as necessary.
However, the commission formed by the PTI government in 2019, after finalizing an interim report on building bylaws, needed to hire a consultant for the revision, leading to the commission becoming inactive.
With the change of government last year, the new government decided to revise the master plan, but so far, there has been no significant progress.
An officer of the CDA said that a summary has recently been submitted to the government for approval of a new commission.
Once approved, the new commission will be formed and will proceed with revising the master plan.
It should be noted that successive governments have made selective changes to the master plan without input from professional consultant firms.
