Karachi Port to Undergo Transformation as Abu Dhabi Ports Group Signs MoU

ISLAMABAD: Abu Dhabi Ports Group and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) have announced a strategic partnership to enhance Karachi Port’s infrastructure and position it as a leading hub for transshipment and international trade.

The joint statement issued on Thursday highlighted the potential for increased economic cooperation between the UAE and Pakistan.

As Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, the UAE offers an advantageous export destination due to its proximity and favorable transportation costs.

The agreement between AD Ports Group, a prominent maritime and logistics provider in the Middle East, and KPT aims to leverage their expertise and relationships with major shipping lines to transform Karachi Port into a premier global trade hub.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of AD Ports Group, expressed confidence in the collaboration’s ability to stimulate economic prosperity in the region.

The partnership aligns with the vision of both countries to promote sustainable growth, trade diversification, and strengthen bilateral ties, he said.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) sets the stage for increased cooperation in the development, expansion, and digitalization of port projects in Pakistan.

Besides, Abu Dhabi Ports Group will also contribute technical expertise, attract foreign direct investment, and conduct feasibility studies to ensure the commercial success of the initiative.

Syed Syedain Raza Zaidi, Chairman of KPT, emphasized the partnership’s potential to unlock unprecedented growth opportunities for Karachi Port and the wider trade community.

The joint efforts aim to elevate the port to world-class standards, capable of meeting the evolving demands of the global trade landscape.
