KP Govt Seeks $55.71m for 2nd phase of Peshawar BRT Project

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced that it will require $55.71m (Rs 122.56bn) for the second phase of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

As per the proposed plan, the BRT service will be extended to Khyber Road, Kohat Road, and Dalzak Road, while the urban mobility projects in Abbottabad and Mingora have also been added to the project.

Work on the second phase of BRT will start in July 2024, according to the documents from the provincial Transport Department.

The Asian Development Bank has provided $20m for the project, but the provincial government still needs over $35m for this purpose.

Out of the proposed Rs122.56bn, the KP government will allocate Rs15.98bn, while the remaining amount will be borrowed from the ADB. The first phase of BRT is expected to be completed later this year.

  1. Crazy. Get these buses made locally and save foreign currency FEX. I hope the SBP and Finance Division will reject this absurd request.

Iam sure that you have never been to peshawar and you have never travelled in BRT, the facility BRT have provided to our people is priceless it has saved us from local bus and taxi mafia and people from every age group and gender have benefitted from this project , i used to oppose it while in construction phase because every corner of peshawar was dug and broken but now iam in favour of it and i want kp gov to extent it to every corner of peshawar.

    Govt also think about mini train connecting major distt with pesh via train track .track can be constructed with main trunk road . Interchange can be build distt to distt.
