KRT and Bank Alfalah to Build Homes for Flood-Hit Communities

KARACHI: Karachi Relief Trust (KRT) and Bank Alfalah have joined hands to finance the construction of economical and eco-friendly houses for flood-hit communities in Sindh.

As part of the collaboration, Bank Alfalah will contribute PKR 50 million towards building 140 houses in two clusters for the flood-affected villages.

It was shared that the cost of constructing each house is estimated to be PKR 350,000.

At the signing ceremony, Atif Bajwa, the President, and CEO of Bank Alfalah stated that the donation would aid in the restoration of infrastructure and help the affected areas return to normalcy in the medium to long term.

The collaboration is part of the ‘Reimagine: Build Back Better’ initiative, which follows a two-pronged approach of rescue and relief, followed by rebuilding and rehabilitation.

It is important to note that the floods last year resulted in a humanitarian crisis in Pakistan, leading to the displacement of more than 30 million people and over USD 30 billion in infrastructure damage.

Furthermore, the government has collaborated with several NGOs and governments to assist in the rehabilitation of the affected people.
