KARACHI: The students from the University of Karachi (KU), in a recent development, have created a model for lightweight houses that can withstand future floods.
As per details, architecture students from the university’s Department of Visual Studies presented a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and mobile design of houses that can be used in flood-affected areas, particularly villages.
The presentation given by students revealed that bamboo frames would be joined together to form walls for the houses. The bamboo walls are adjustable and detachable, allowing them to be removed and converted into a floating boat.
According to sources, the houses would be constructed from materials such as bamboo, mat, mud, reusable plastic bottles, and tires. They are expected to cost between Rs. 50,000 and 100,000.
