Lahore’s Modern Sabzi and Fruit Mandi Project Gains Momentum

LAHORE: A stakeholder meeting was convened to discuss the establishment of a modern fruit and vegetable market, organized by the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA), Punjab Agricultural Marketing Regulatory Authority (PAMRA), and the Agriculture Department.

The gathering was attended by numerous individuals representing the fruit and vegetable market, market committee associations, and PAMRA officials.

CEO of RUDA, Imran Amin, highlighted the importance of establishing a modern Sabzi Mandi (vegetable and fruit market) within the premises of Ravi Urban Development Authority.

He stressed that this initiative aligns with the directives of the Punjab Government and can play a crucial role in addressing several pressing issues.

As per the details, these include meeting the growing demand for fresh products, enhancing the livelihoods of farmers and traders, regulating prices and product quality, reducing food wastage, generating employment opportunities, promoting sustainability, and improving food security in Lahore.

CEO Imran Amin stressed that this infrastructure investment is essential for the city’s overall growth and development.

Special Secretary of Agriculture, Kalsoom Hai, acknowledged the concerns and reservations expressed by stakeholders in the Sabzi and fruit Mandi. She assured them of the government’s full support for the development and benefit of all stakeholders.

She reaffirmed that the new Sabzi Mandi would be established in line with the expectations and needs of the stakeholders.

Furthermore, she also outlined plans for a facilitation center, a research center, a seed distribution center, a modern storage facility, and a control room, emphasizing their unique features.
