LDA to Address Environmental and Traffic Concerns

LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) held its first committee meeting on Tuesday to improve the living environment of the provincial capital of Lahore.

The meeting was chaired by DG LDA Aamir Ahmad Khan and was attended by Chief Town Planner Shakeel Anjum Minhas, Chief Metropolitan Planner Nadeem Akhtar Zaidi, and other officials.

It was revealed that the upgrading of nine major roads as model roads would be carried out in phases, starting with Main Boulevard Allama Iqbal Town and G1 Road Johar Town in the first phase.

The purpose of the model roads is to address environmental pollution, traffic control, and parking problems.

The meeting also discussed issues related to environmental safety, parking, traffic congestion, purpose-built land use, and building regulations.

LDA DG warned that buildings that ignore standard operating procedures, despite repeated warnings, would be sealed.

Additionally, the sub-committee will review the progress from time to time and prepare its report.

The citizens are facing problems like illegal commercialization, misuse of approved land use, wrong parking, traffic congestion, and building regulations.

It was shared that LDA has failed to implement the court’s order to control smog and previous plans to make roads signal-free corridors have also failed.

The lack of proper parking places and the mushroom growth of illegal commercial activities have also created a shortage of parking spaces.
