LDA’s Operation Against Encroachments Sparks Protest on Jail Road

LAHORE: In a move to tackle encroachments and illegal constructions, LDA teams, under the direction of Commissioner Lahore and LDA DG Muhammad Ali Randhawa, conducted a major operation in the vicinity of Jail Road.

As per the details, the operation aimed to reclaim parking spaces that had been unlawfully occupied.

During Monday’s operation, over 60 shops, showrooms, and bakeries were sealed, while the sheds, boards, and porches of more than 80 shops were demolished.

However, following the operation, traders from Jail Road expressed their discontent with the LDA’s actions and staged a protest, causing a roadblock by burning tires.

LDA officials clarified that multiple notices were issued to the sealed shops before the operation, which was conducted due to their non-compliance with the instructions.

In response to the incident, Commissioner Lahore ordered the LDA teams to initiate legal proceedings against those who illegally unsealed the shops.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with MCL teams, specifically targeted those who failed to allocate parking spaces and had engaged in unauthorized encroachments.

In the past week, LDA issued notices to violators on Jail Road, Johar Town, and other significant thoroughfares, emphasizing the need for corrective measures.

The details suggest that the additional DG Housing led the operation, with the participation of a substantial number of police personnel and heavy machinery.

Besides, the town Planning Director Sidra Tabassum, along with Azhar Ali, Ali Abbas, and the Director of Enforcement, were also present during the operation.
