MDA Sacks 4 PHE Officials Guilty in Corruption Probe

LAHORE: Four Public Health Engineering (PHE) employees were found guilty of misconduct and corruption in development projects when they were working in Muzaffargarh after a formal investigation.

The investigation, which was overseen by Multan Development Authority (MDA) Director-General Kaiser Saleem, recommended the forced retirement of two employees and the firing of two others from their positions.

As per the details, to investigate the allegations of inefficiency, misconduct, and corruption against EXEN Amjad Saleem Khan, SDO Talib Hussain, SDO Jatoi Latif Ahmad, and sub-engineer Shahid Naeem Akhtar, the PHE (South Punjab) established a 3-person investigative committee.

According to the investigation committee report, the authorities in Rangpur were involved in stealing millions of rupees through a variety of schemes for installing tuff tiles in the city’s streets and sewage projects while awarding the contracts to their preferred vendors.

After completing a thorough investigation and touring the project sites, the committee recommended that the responsible authorities and contractors be held accountable for the damages they caused to the public exchequer.

According to the PEEDA Act of 2006, the inquiry committee recommended that EXEN Amjad Saleem Khan and Jatoi SDO Lateef Ahmad be forced into retirement.

Furthermore, SDO Talib Hussain and sub-engineer Shahid Naeem Akhtar be fired from their positions due to incompetence, making irregular payments, and corruption, the committee recommended.

The committee also suggested delaying the payment of pension benefits to compulsorily retired personnel until they have made financial contributions to the national exchequer.

Besides, the group has been functioning for the past 4 months, according to DG MDA as he visited construction sites where nothing had been completed other than the distribution of cash to the contractor.
