NA Body Orders Immediate Completion of Surveys of Damaged Houses in South Waziristan

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) has instructed the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Tribal District South Waziristan to finalize the pending surveys of damaged houses within two weeks.

During the committee meeting, chaired by Muhammad Jamal-ul-Din, serious concerns were expressed when it was revealed that the survey of approximately 4,000 damaged houses in South Waziristan had not been completed due to ongoing law and order issues in certain areas.

The committee urged the ADC to promptly submit all survey forms to the Rehabilitation & Reconstruction Unit (RRU) secretariat in Peshawar, as this matter has been in progress for the past 6-7 years.

In a briefing on the Special Integrated Area Development Package for Tribal District South Waziristan, the ADC informed the committee that the Project Management Unit (PMU) is facing limitations due to the ban on appointments of Grade-17 and above employees by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The committee directed the ADC to process the case and forward it to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the appointment of Grade-17 and above employees.

As per the details, this step is crucial to ensure the functionality of the Project Management Unit and the timely implementation of development projects.

During the meeting, the committee also discussed the alleged illegal absorption of 77 Levies Force/Khasadar personnel into the KP Police and the issue of regularization and delayed salaries of staff members at Governors Model Schools.

To address the salary issue, the committee instructed the Secretary of Elementary & Secondary Education to immediately submit a summary to seek grant-in-aid to make payments to the aforementioned school staff.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Ibadullah Khan, Chaudry Muhammad Ashraf, Nasiba Channa, Afreen Khan, and senior officials from the Ministry and its affiliated departments.
