NA Committee Probes Misprocurement by National Highways Authority

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Communications has raised questions about the National Highways Authority’s (NHA) misprocurement in the awarding of the Lodhran-Multan section of N-5, questioning why an advance of one billion rupees was given.

The committee met to discuss the matter, and representatives of the NHA have promised to submit full details of the project at the next meeting.

However, the committee was not satisfied with the details presented by the representatives of the NHA regarding the Gharo Keti Bandargah Road Project and recommended that the project’s work be completed at the earliest.

The Sehwan-Jamshoro Road Project was also discussed in detail, with the committee questioning the quality of the work done and recommending that Motorways Police be deployed on the road as soon as possible.

Furthermore, the committee deferred the matter regarding the service road along with the M-9 Motorway, the slow construction of the old Bannu Road, and the issue of encroachment by real estate companies on NHA land without approval, due to the absence of the movers.

Besides, a sub-committee was also set up by the committee, which includes Ramesh Lal, Dr. Darshan, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, and Syed Ayaz Ali Shah Sherazi as members.

The subcommittee’s terms of reference would be “to visit and inspect the NHA roads completed or yet to be completed in Balochistan and Sindh.”

The meeting was attended by Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, Chaudhry Khalid Javed, Rana Muhammad Ishaq Khan, Dr. Darshan, Syed Abrar Ali Shah Sherazi, and others.
