NA Speaker Expresses Disappointment over Delay in New Parliament Lodges Project

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf expressed disappointment over the delayed progress of the New Parliament Lodges project during a visit to the site on Tuesday.

Along with Chairman Public Accounts Committee Noor Alam Khan, Ashraf inspected the construction of 104 family suites and 500 servant quarters, with senior officers of Capital Development Authority (CDA) briefing them on the project’s issues and basic contours.

Ashraf criticized CDA’s poor performance, noting that more than a decade’s delay in completing the project was a sign of severe negligence and non-professionalism.

He also instructed the National Assembly Secretariat to arrange a meeting with Chairman Senate to find solutions to complete the project.

Meanwhile, Khan highlighted the importance of completing the project’s family suites on a priority basis as more than seventy percent of the work had already been completed.

Furthermore, the drainage issue, parking, and lift problems were also discussed in the meeting.

The CDA briefed the officials that the project was to be completed in 2013 but was delayed, causing the cost to rise from Rs. 1.6 billion to Rs. 6.4 billion.

Besides, Ashraf and Khan expressed their displeasure over CDA’s non-professionalism in this regard.
