NAB Seeks Property Details of PTI Leader Shahzad Akbar over Alleged Irregularities

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has extended the investigation into former accountability czar and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mirza Shahzad Akbar.

As per the details, the NAB’s Lahore Bureau has asked development authorities to submit records and property details owned by Shahzad Akbar and his family by March 6.

It is worth mentioning that the accountability watchdog had previously launched an investigation against Barrister Mirza Shahzad Akbar, the former special assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan, over allegations of owning assets beyond proven means.

NAB has also accused Shahzad Akbar of committing irregularities in the amount recovered from Britain and brought to Pakistan.

In addition, Islamabad police had registered a case against the former aide to the prime minister Shahzad Akbar, model Sophia Mirza, and former director-general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sanaullah Abbasi over allegations of conspiracy, forgery, and misuse of public office.

The Secretariat police station had filed a case against Shahzad Akbar, Sophia Mirza, and former DG-FIA Sanaullah Abbasi on the complaint of Umar Farooq Zahoor, Mirza’s former husband, for record tampering, forgery, and misuse of public office.

Zahoor engaged lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq to represent him about this matter and his application, the complainant alleged that Sophia and Akbar conspired to create a fabricated story against him and filed false and bogus cases with the support of Sanaullah Abbasi.

NAB’s investigation and the cases filed against Shahzad Akbar and his associates have led to widespread concern among the public and have raised questions about the credibility of the government’s anti-corruption efforts.
