New Directorates Established to Combat Chronic Encroachments in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to address chronic encroachments and uphold the rule of law in Islamabad, two additional directorates are being established under the Deputy Director General (DDG).

This announcement was made on Twitter by Noor Ul Amin Mengal, who outlined the plan to enhance enforcement and regulation in the city.

The new directorates, which will be supported by nine Assistant Directors (ADs) and 27 Enforcement Teams, are expected to expedite the clearance of sectors, green belts, and commercial and residential areas from unchecked encroachments.

The move is part of a broader initiative to restore and maintain Islamabad’s aesthetic and structural integrity.

However, the announcement was met with mixed reactions from the public. Some Twitter users pointed out previous promises related to the development of specific areas, such as E-12, that have not been fulfilled. Others raised concerns about areas like G-12 and the encroachments by large real estate groups along highways, particularly near DHA 2 Islamabad.

In response to these concerns, Mengal assured that these issues were on the cards and would be addressed soon. He also received words of encouragement from some users who appreciated the efforts to uphold the rule of law and called for the cost of demolition and clearance to be charged from the encroachers.

The establishment of the new directorates signifies a proactive approach towards the management of urban spaces in Islamabad.

It highlights the commitment to address longstanding encroachment issues and ensure that the entire city reflects the beauty and orderliness that Islamabad is known for.
