Pakistan and US to Collaborate on Green and Renewable Energy Projects

WASHINGTON: In a recent meeting with senior US officials, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Petroleum, Musadik Masood Malik, explored ways to improve productivity in the energy sector and help Pakistan establish cross-border networks to bring products and services to the global market.

The talks with Verinda Fike, Regional Director for Indo-Pacific at the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), and Tanvi Madhusudanan, USTDA Country Manager for the Indo-Pacific Region, focused on addressing challenges like climate change and its impact on Pakistan’s economy.

To ensure energy security, affordability, and sustainability, the two sides discussed developing a roadmap for pursuing new businesses in the green and renewable energy sectors, both in the public and private sectors.

The US officials also agreed to provide financial and technical expertise to undertake feasibility studies for mutually agreed projects.

In the first quarter of next year, a delegation of Pakistani businessmen and counterparts from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand will visit the US to study methane abatement technologies and bio-methane conversion into fertilizers.

The US officials showed keen interest in pursuing green ammonia, green hydrogen, and renewable energy projects in Pakistan.

During the meeting, Malik expressed Pakistan’s desire to lead the transition towards clean and green energy in the developing world in collaboration with the US.

The Pakistani embassy issued a statement highlighting the need to ensure energy security, affordability, and sustainability in the wake of climate change and its socioeconomic impact on Pakistan.

Furthermore, the statement also indicated the US officials’ willingness to support Pakistan’s efforts to tackle the challenges in the energy sector.
