PHED Officials Busted in Rs. 100 million Scam, Dismissed from Service

MUZAFFARGARH: Former Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) executive engineer, Muzaffargarh Amjad Saleem Khan, and three other officials have been removed from their positions following an inquiry into the misappropriation of funds worth Rs100 million.

The officials were found guilty of involvement in a “scam” relating to a sewerage scheme and installation of tuff tiles.

Sub-Divisional Officer Talib Hussain and SDO Tehsil Jatoi Latif Ahmed were also found to have been involved in corruption and have been dismissed and prematurely retired, respectively.

Shahid Naeem, a sub-engineer of the PHED, was dismissed from service. Secretary Housing Rana Saleem Ahmed Khan issued the retirement and dismissal orders.

The officials were unable to defend themselves, and an inquiry report submitted by Director General Multan Development Authority (MDA) Kaiser Saleem, who was heading the probe team, led to the officials’ punishment.

According to sources, the misappropriation of funds has resulted in the officials’ removal from service, with further actions likely to follow.
