ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has called for the adoption of green and sustainable building practices in Pakistan’s housing and construction sector.
He urged the promotion of sustainable living and moderate consumption in order to conserve energy and limited natural resources. He emphasized that rethinking, redesigning, rebuilding, and reusing materials and resources have become crucial for promoting climate-friendly and resilient infrastructure in the country.
The President made these statements during his address at the inaugural ceremony of the Building Materials Exhibition 2023 organized by the Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP) Rawalpindi chapter.
The ceremony was attended by architects, graduates, and members of the housing and construction industry.
Dr. Alvi highlighted the importance of architecture in providing quality and aesthetically pleasing accommodations to the people.
He urged architects to design buildings with in-built mechanisms to make them differently-abled person friendly, as well as by making rooftops usable by growing vegetables and greenery and installing solar panels to provide green and clean energy.
He also noted that construction and development activities by the public sector greatly contribute to increasing economic activity and injecting liquidity into the system, thus helping in the growth of industry and providing employment to the people.
