RAWALPINDI: Several posh private housing societies have launched a crackdown against beggars and their handlers who have been causing disturbances in their areas.
As per the details, various gangs of beggars, including women and children, have reportedly swarmed into these housing societies and started creating chaos for visitors in the markets.
In response, the administration of these housing societies has placed banners urging residents to avoid giving alms to professional beggars and instead inform relevant officials about their presence in the area.
The beggars are believed to have been brought mostly from areas in South Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa, and they often pose as laborers and domestic workers to penetrate the housing societies.
While private housing societies cannot take legal action against beggars, they are taking measures to curb the illegal practice.
Officials have been nabbing the beggars and handing them over to the police department for further action.
Furthermore, these beggars can be seen along roads, traffic intersections, markets, and bazaars, knocking on car windows and pleading for alms.
The residents claimed that begging often leads to other crimes such as burglary and exploiting vulnerable individuals to raise money illegally.
The local administration has been tracking down beggars and pushing them out of the markets since the start of Ramadan.
However, the details indicate that they often change their locations, appearing in different areas throughout the day.
