LAHORE: The Senior Member Board of Revenue and Relief Commissioner of Punjab, Nabeel Javed, has urged line departments to use earthquake-proof materials in newly constructed buildings to avoid earthquake disasters.
During a visit to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) control room, Javed instructed the administration to inspect high-rise buildings and take strict action against those using non-standard materials in construction.
The PDMA DG, Imran Qureshi, provided an initial report indicating that nine minor injuries were reported in Rawalpindi, but there were no fatalities or property damage.
Javed requested districts to immediately submit details of available equipment to deal with natural disasters to improve coordination processes and keep staff and machinery alert for earthquake aftershocks.
Besides, he also instructed PDMA to maintain continuous liaison with districts of Punjab.
