KARACHI: A multi-story building in Karachi DHA’s Khayaban-i-Shamsher has tipped to one side, presumably due to the construction of another building on the adjacent plot.
The incident caused fear and panic among residents who approached the police for further investigation.
According to SHO Darakshan Shoaib Rehman, the police inspected the building at 6 p.m. and discovered that it was already vacant as no one was residing there.
However, he stated that a local company had an office there, which was also vacant at the time of the incident.
The SHO stated that building experts would be better able to investigate the exact cause of its tilting, but it appears that a building was being built on the adjacent plot, and it tilted possibly due to digging for its construction.
According to a local, the building that has slanted is the one next to the former Café Zouk that was demolished.
Furthermore, during the reconstruction, it was heavily waterlogged during the rains, exposing the foundations of the adjacent building, which had tilted.
“There is a fear that the said building would collapse at any time,” a police official said, adding that “all concerned institutions have already been informed about the incident.”
