Residents Protests Against MDA Amid Anticipated Demolition of Goths

KARACHI: The residents of numerous goths of Karachi’s Malir area have protested against the Malir Development Authority (MDA) regarding the potential demolition of goths.

The demonstrators chanted anti-development authority slogans while carrying banners and posters. The homeowners claimed that they had the lease documents for their residences and that the development authority was attempting to raze goths as part of a “plot.”

Furthermore, earlier in November, the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) continued its anti-encroachment campaign in District Central by removing illegal buildings in Wahid Colony and Mujahid Colony.

The details showed that the KDA would build a 150-foot-wide road from Nazimabad No. 7 through Ziauddin Chowrangi, Landi Kotal Chowrangi, and Peoples Chowrangi to Rashid Minhas Road at a cost of Rs. 50 million, after the operation completes.

It is worth noting that the civil society denounced the destruction of houses in the Mujahid Colony and urged that the Sindh government cease forcibly displacing the residents.

Members of the civil society said that because of the unforeseen demolition push, the government had evicted 2,000 residents from their homes without offering any of them an alternate location.
