RMC Fires Employees Involved in 9 May Protest

RAWALPINDI: In a recent development, the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has taken disciplinary action against three of its employees for their participation in a violent protest at the gate of the General Headquarters of the Pakistan Army on Murree Road.

The protest was organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on May 9 following the arrest of the party’s Chairman and former Prime Minister, Imran Khan.

Under the Punjab Employees Efficiently, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act of 2006, the RMC dismissed the three workers after completing a thorough inquiry process.

Show cause notices were issued to these employees, and it was found that they were not only involved in the demonstration but also engaged in anti-state activities and raised slogans against the state.

The Chief Executive Officer of the RMC issued a notice of dismissal under the PEEDA Act following a prior show-cause notice that had been served to the employees.

Their identities were confirmed through footage of the incident. Departmental heads of these employees have been instructed to initiate legal proceedings against them under the PEEDA Act.

Additionally, efforts are underway to identify officials from other government departments, including the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA), and health departments, who participated in the violent demonstration outside the GHQ.
