Sanitation Staff in Kohat Protests Over Non-Payment of Salaries

PESHAWAR: Around 500 Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC) workers in Kohat went on strike on Monday, May 9, due to the non-payment of salaries.

The details suggest that for the last two and a half years the workers were denied the salaries by their parent department, the tehsil municipal administration.

According to WSSC deputy general manager Tahir Afeef, an agreement reached with the TMA in 2017 transferred all sanitation staff to WSSC.

However, Sohail Ahmed, president of the WSSC sanitary workers’ association, claimed that when they called on the tehsil municipal officer to release the withheld salaries to the sanitation staff.

He also added that the provincial local government department was not in a position to release the funds due to a financial crisis.
