SHC Orders Ban on Heavy Traffic in Karachi Metropolis

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has instructed the National Highway Authority and the Traffic Engineering Bureau to join a legal case regarding the prohibition of heavy vehicles in the city of Karachi.

The petition was filed by a concerned individual who sought to address the issue of heavy traffic on Sunset Boulevard in the Defense Housing Authority area.

The court was informed by DIG Traffic that on average, 2-3 people die in traffic accidents daily in the city.

Moreover, the Chief Secretary of Sindh submitted a detailed report to the court on the matter.

The court also questioned the Public Prosecutor on the current transport policy.

The judges emphasized the need for strict enforcement against violators of traffic laws, and also warned against any form of strike being called.

They also called for a policy to be developed in consultation with all relevant stakeholders to address the problem and for increased awareness and compliance with traffic laws.
