Shehbaz Sharif Seeks Acquittal in Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme

LAHORE: PM Shehbaz Sharif and former director general of the Lahore Development Authority Ahad Khan Cheema have filed acquittal applications from the Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme case.

As per the details, an accountability court has issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on their applications.

In their applications, they argued that all the approvers and witnesses of NAB had recanted their earlier statements, and there was no possibility of conviction.

5 prosecution witnesses have previously rejected allegations of corruption or illegality in the housing scheme project.

In its reference, NAB alleged that PM Shehbaz and other accused persons caused a significant loss to the national exchequer.

PM Shehbaz was arrested in 2018 in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme reference, while Cheema was released on bail after almost two years in jail.
