KARACHI: The Sindh government announced on Sunday that three new routes of the electric bus service would start operating between April 13 and 18, including one that will cover Bahria Town Karachi, a gated housing society on the outskirts of the city.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who also holds the portfolio of transport, announced at a press conference.

The first route, which will become operational on April 13, will cover areas between Al-Asif Square in Sohrab Goth and Tank Chowk in Malir Cantonment.

The second and third routes will cover areas from Bahria Town Karachi to Tank Chowk, Malir Cantt, and from North Karachi to Dockyard, respectively.

Memon also declared that the government had dropped a proposal to increase the fare of the Peoples Bus Service due to the rising inflation in the country.

“As of today, each route of the Peoples Bus Service on average covers a distance of 30-40 kilometers in just Rs. 50 per passenger which is less than the cost of motorcycle fuel,” he added.
