LAHORE: Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) stressed the necessity of halting the purchase of agricultural land for the construction of housing societies.
Speaking at the two-day Asma Jahangir Conference, the judge claimed to have given the order to halt the purchase of agricultural land in the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) case, adding that he had also repealed the outdated colonial rule that allowed for the purchase of agricultural land for the purpose of developing infrastructure.
“For the sake of God, stop purchasing agricultural land,” he stressed, terming food security as national security.
Speaking on the occasion, the justice stated that the most serious issue was rising temperatures, and stressed installing solar panels and planting saplings to reduce temperature.
Furthermore, Justice Karim also shed light on the steps taken to upgrade the brick kilns’ technology and said that in two and a half years, the brick kilns were converted to zigzag technology.
