RAWALPINDI: The Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Muhammad Tanveer, has instructed officials to take stringent measures against individuals who throw garbage and solid waste into nullahs, including Nullah Lai.
During an operation, three tractor-trolleys were apprehended for dumping solid waste into Nullah Lai. The vehicles were impounded and handed over to the police for legal action.
This operation was initiated on the orders of Commissioner Rawalpindi, Liaquat Ali Chatha, to crack down on violators of Section-144 imposed in areas near Nullah Lai and other nullahs in the town.
According to reports, the Punjab government allocated a substantial amount of funds each year for the cleaning of nullahs.
As the monsoon season approaches, citizens are requested to cooperate with WASA staff in keeping the nullahs clean.
Moreover, the MD emphasized that citizens must play their part in supporting the sanitation department’s efforts to maintain the cleanliness of the nullahs.
It is important to deposit filth and solid waste only at designated garbage points to facilitate easy removal, he added.
The public is urged to report any instances of garbage dumping in Nullah Lai to the police helpline number, 15, as responsible citizens.
According to officials, those who violate the district administration’s orders and dump garbage in nullahs will face fines and penalties, while special teams have been formed to conduct raids and take action against violators.
