Telenor Pakistan held an awards distribution ceremony here today for winners of its Apportunity competition.
The competition invited Pakistani students and software developers to create applications (apps) in various categories. Prizes were given to developers of the most downloaded apps.
Overall, the top two apps with highest number of downloads won iPads, whereas five Category winners were given smart phones. All competition entries won Rs 5,000 worth of air time.
Speaking on the occasion, Usman Javed, Director Marketing Telenor Pakistan said:
“Apportunity is all about encouraging young Pakistanis to create apps for the global market. Given an opportunity, our app developers can compete with the best in the world.
Already the apps created by the winners have been downloaded thousands of times by people across the globe. Telenor will continue to provide opportunities to the talented youth of Pakistan to enable them to excel in their fields.”
Participants appreciated Telenor Pakistan’s efforts at promoting innovation and encouraging young talent to enable them to be recognized at the global level. The event was attended by a large number of bloggers.
The Apportunity competition consisted of 05 apps categories such as Games & Fun, Location & Presence, Health & Fitness, etc. Apps could be created for stores such as Apple’s App Store, Google’s Android Market, Nokia’s Ovi Store, and Samsung Apps; all major platforms were allowed such as Java, Symbian and Flash Lite.

Telenor should also award Mobilink to launch Pakistan’s first APP store “Jazz Bananas” lolz.. hahahahah. Something they weren’t able to do themselves, atleast they can acknowledge Mobilink
