Telcos Conclude Biometric Verification Drive

Biometric verification drive, that was extended for another month, is now concluded and all operators have disabled/cancelled all unverified SIMs, we have checked.

Initial deadline for biometric verification of SIMs was set as April 12th, 2015; however, Interior Ministry — after a detailed discussion with telcos and PTA — extended the deadline for white-list SIMs till May 15th, 2015 that ended on Friday.

Interior Ministry had said that white-list is those customers who had 1 SIM per CNIC per operator.

Some media reports are saying that telcos verified 75.5 million SIMs during the drive while another 27.5 million SIMs were blocked, however, we can’t confirm this at this point in time as PTA isn’t saying any word on the count of verified SIMs or those that are blocked.

In an exclusive interview with ProPakistani two weeks ago, a PTA high-up had confirmed us that there were a total of 95 million SIMs re-verified during the campaign. According to this official, millions of long-dead dormant SIMs — that were not included in 103 million initial count set aside for re-verification — were also verified by customers.

According to this official, total count of Pakistani verified users had reached 121.8 million.

PTA is saying that official figures will be made public only after a third-party audit, for which an advertisement for hiring of this audit firm has already been floated.

  • unverified sims if bought with thumb verification will continue to work, its common sense, they just put everyone in same boat for their easiness. my old telenor sim which i bought with thumb verification never got re-verified, yet still works.

  • My unverified zong sim is still not block, & it was not issued on thumb verification
