PTA Wants to Ensure Improved Network Redundancy

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority has asked telecom companies to set up interconnect and network-sharing agreements with at least two other operators to ensure that their network backbones are always on (fully redundant).

This directive is basically to ensure parallel and seamless communication across the country on all operators.
Directive further asked operators to ensure improved redundancy for major cities with-in three months and mid-tier cities within six months. Operators will also need to ensure redundancy for international connections, increase peering arrangements for Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, develop disaster recovery systems at multiple network levels and take measures to protect physical infrastructure.

More details on this legislation will be updated soon.
