PTA launched 668 SIM information System, a service that can tell number of SIMs issued against any CNIC through SMS or 668 website, has served around 16 million requests, as told by industry sources.
ProPakistani had unveiled 668 services and broke the story on September 17th, 2009 – which was replicated throughout the country in print and web media; however, PTA officially launched this service on October 15th, 2009.
Since then, a total of 11 million SMS requests and 5 million web requests were entertained by 668.
Sources revealed ProPakistani that a total of 0.90 million complaints were lodged in response to 668 information system, which reported total of 2.38 million irregular connections.
Out of 2.38 million SIMs, 0.90 SIMs have been regularized, another 0.5 million were blocked and around 0.92 million SIMs are pending regularization.
668 is a good effort by PTA for elimination of illegal SIMs, but maybe not the best one.
